Something secret is opening inside Serenity Couture...
The Atlas Room, a hidden speakeasy and craft cocktail lounge, is opening the week of March 30, tucked behind a concealed entrance right here inside our West Des Moines salon.
Serenity Couture Salon & Spa owners Doug and Jana Van Polen have always believed that a visit to Serenity should feel like more than an appointment. The Atlas Room is the next step in that vision.
To bring it to life, Doug and Jana partnered with Henry Avila, a Miami Beach native who built his career across some of the most respected bar scenes in the country. From his family's South Beach nightclubs to the Hell's Kitchen bar scene in Manhattan, Henry most recently served as Bar Manager of Salvation Taco in the restaurant group of award-winning chef April Bloomfield.
It was in New York that Henry met an Iowa native who would later become his wife, bringing him to the Des Moines metro in 2020. Now, as Director of Beverage & Operations at The Atlas Room, he's channeling every city, every shift, and every lesson into something entirely his own.
"This space represents everything I've learned from Miami to New York to Iowa," Henry says. "It's not just a bar. It's the culmination of every lesson, every shift, every risk, and every leap of faith along the way."
Soon, your time at Serenity will include something a little extra. Guests will have access to an exclusive cocktail menu, available to enjoy right alongside their salon and spa services. It's the kind of elevated, unhurried experience we've always wanted to offer.
